Happy Royal Wedding Day!

Friday, April 29, 2011

I have to be honest, I didn't really pay attention to the royal wedding hype until about 4 days ago when I actually bothered to look up Kate Middleton and realized how adorable she was. I don't know why I was so averse to it considering I love anything British - Monty Python, British authors, England in general (I could go on and on). But once I saw that Kate was gorgeous and had fantastic style I was hooked. Some of my favorite looks:

Coats:
I guess living in a frigid state like Wisconsin makes you care more about your outerwear because I'm a total coat person. I love all of these coats, but especially the last one with the large collar and flared skirt. Classic and stylish!

Dress:
She certainly knows how to dress to impress while still being conservative and ladylike. And of course her fabulous head pieces. I admit, I would love it if fascinators jumped the pond and became a trend over here. Sign me up for some fabulous head wear!

Casual:
It can't all be fancy parties and royal occasions (although after today it will be!) and Kate still looks fabulous in jeans. I love these looks best because they're easy to incorporate into a non-royal wardrobe.

While I am excited for the wedding, I'm going to be happily dreaming at 3am when the festivities start. That's what DVR is for. Cheers!

In a hole in the ground there lived a hobbit

Wednesday, April 27, 2011

If I may completely and utterly geek out for a second, I wanted to share this:

For those of you who don't know, I am a HUGE Lord of the Rings fan. J.R.R. Tolkien is one of my favorite authors, and Peter Jackson's movie version of LOTR remains my favorite movie(s) to this day.  Ngila Dickson's costumes are actually the reason why I am in the fashion industry right now. Her work in the movie inspired me so much that I learned to sew, and then went to fashion school, and now work in the industry. So when I saw this video from the set I may have completely freaked out and had the hugest, silliest grin on my face. I am so freaking excited for them to finally make The Hobbit!!! Anyone want to take a little trip to New Zealand with me to stalk them see the set?!

Happy Easter!

Sunday, April 24, 2011

I hope everyone had a happy Easter! I went to church, went to brunch with my mom's side of extended family, drank many mimosas, went to dinner with my dad's extended family, ate way too much, and continued moving stuff out of my apartment and into my parents' basement for storage. I officially move into my new place on Thursday and until then I'll be cleaning like a mad woman!

Happy Easter! He has risen indeed!

Move along, nothing to see here

Packing, packing, procrastinating la de da...

Packing

Friday, April 15, 2011

It's been quieter than usual around here, mostly because work has been steamrolling over me (and then backing up and rolling over me again) leaving me with no energy to do anything afterwards. It looks like it's going to stay that way for a few more weeks because I just realized yesterday that I only have 2 weeks to pack my entire apartment and move. Somehow "May 1" always seemed way farther off in the distance so I haven't even started thinking about packing. To do this weekend: clean and pack!

Freedom Festival

Monday, April 11, 2011

I am absolutely in love with Free People's spring collection. Not only does it make me miss the west coast (and my long hair for that matter), the bohemian styling has me dreaming of hot summer nights and road trips to the beach. I have half a mind to buy a bunch of maxi dresses and skirts and live in them all summer long with layered tank tops and an armful of bracelets. And that fantastic belt in the 4th picture.

Half a disaster

I seemed to have spent the entire weekend cooking again. It all started with the cherry and kale chicken that I made for dinner. It was delicious and definitely will be made again, but it left me with a huge bag of frozen cherries that I wasn't quite sure what to do with. I decided to make my mom a low sugar cherry crumble dessert for her birthday on Saturday. I wasn't even going to post about it because it didn't turn out at all:

It was supposed to be a granola type crumble on top, and as you can see it didn't. But then I tasted it and it was delicious, so I decided to post it anyway. The crumble soaked into the cherry pie filling and has almost a doughy consistency but even though it looks ugly it's super tasty!

Spring please come soon

Friday, April 1, 2011

Please, please, please be warm.

I've been in a funk lately. I think I have spring fever, cabin fever, and leftover winter blues all rolled up into one giant cloud hanging over my head. The weather here is still hovering around the 20s and 30s, and I just want to be able to wear sandals and dresses and summer clothes! So here's to April being a warm month and giving me more energy to actually do things!
