Literary Inspirations - Peter Pan

Monday, October 25, 2010

We haven't done one of these in forever! This literary inspiration is based on the book Peter Pan by J.M. Barrie
Peter Pan
All it takes is a little faith, trust, and pixie dust! A pirate hat for wearing on board the pirate ship, Indian moccasins to walk silently through the woods like Tiger Lilly's tribe. A secret forest hideout with the Lost Boys. Watch out for the mermaids - they aren't friendly! And the crocodile is your friend, if you're not Captain Hook!

Fall Wish List

Otherwise known as "stuff I want but am too poor to buy so I will drool over on polyvore instead"
Fall wish list

I didn't mean for it to be themed, but it does seem to have a fairly neutral color scheme. Right now I'm wishing for cozy sweaters, black jeans, the perfect pair of black boots (which I've been looking for for about 3 years now with no luck), taupe nail polish, warm slippers, and especially a gold men's inspired watch. There's a girl in my office who has the watch in this set and I want to steal it from her. My birthday is in about 2 months though, hmmmm...

An Apple A Day

Monday, October 11, 2010

Leaves me with way too many apples.

Last weekend the boy and I went apple picking and even though we only picked a peck (of picked peppers?) it was still way more than I was ever going to eat on my own. So what to do with all the extras? Make delicious apple treats of course!

While I do love Apple Crisp, I find it's usually a bit too sweet for me. So instead I tired this Apple Breakfast Granola Crisp from Smitten Kitchen. I made a few adjustments to the recipe - I used 1/4 c sugar to give it a little bit of sweetness, and next time I would use another cup of oats because the granola seemed to be significantly less in proportion to the apples.

I brought it to my cousin's birthday party and it was a huge hit, especially with the two diabetics since there's only 1/4 c of sugar (or a few tablespoons if you use the original recipe) and 1/4 c honey in the entire batch.

The only problem that remains is that this only used up about half the apples! What to make with the other half?

I wanted to post more of these fantastic old pictures

Can we take a moment to look at this woman's awesome coat?

Pass the Mustard

Friday, October 1, 2010

Maybe it's the leaves beginning to change colors, but I am in love with golden and mustardy yellows right now. I have a rather difficult time pulling that color off, so I will look at all these pretties instead.
