Wanting and Wishing

Monday, February 22, 2010

I just want to live in Anthropologie's latest marketing campaign. The colors, the ruffles, the old picture frames! I really like the combination of the blue and white striped sweater with the yellow shirt, it's something I might have to find a cheaper version of. I wish I had unlimited resources so I could buy pretty much the entire store (and I suppose a foot of height wouldn't hurt so I could actually pull off those cropped pants without looking like a stump!)

In other news I survived my weekend trip, barely. My best friend is getting married this summer and she currently resides in Iowa where she is attending school. One of the other bridesmaids and I drove out to see her Friday night and spent almost 9 hours (on what should have been a 5 hour drive) battling unplowed roads while counting 19 cars in the ditch. (You want to know what's in Iowa? Snow. And abandoned cars apparently.) Then after a gorgeous day Saturday we discovered that the next blizzard was coming through Sunday and if we didn't leave at 5 am, we would be snowed in until Tuesday. As much fun as that would have been we had to work this week so we dragged our sorry butts out of bed at 4:30 am and drove the 5 1/2 hours home racing the snow storm that we could see gathering behind us. But it was definitely worth it to see the bride again and spend the weekend catching up, laughing, and working on invitations. To sum it up: I am tired today.

Things I Love Thursday

Thursday, February 18, 2010

This is  going to be a quick one because I'm packing for an impromptu trip!

Today's list:

  • Going to visit my best friend who lives several states away tomorrow who I haven't seen in forever!
  • Zumba class
  • Going tanning (I know it's terrible for you and I don't do it often, but every once in a while in the throes of winter I just need to lay somewhere warm and bright and smelling of coconut for 10 minutes
  • Getting the logo for the business!
  • Home Sweet Home Tumblr. I love photos of the interiors of people's homes. It's such a look into their personalities
  • Going and/or plotting adventures
See you after the weekend!

I just got a glimpse at the first draft of my logo! I'm absolutely in love with it, it's better than I ever imagined!  We're still working out the colors, but I'll post it soon for the world to see!

Random Literary Round Up

Friday, February 12, 2010

I've been meaning to post this since before I moved, but things just piled up and this got pushed to the wayside. But first, it's so sad to hear about Alexander McQueen dying, he was such an inspirational designer, and I was always a fan of his designs.

I have a couple of literary related links today (because I'm a nerd and books are awesome) and starting off with

100 Awesome Courses for Bibliophiles you know, in case you didn't learn enough in college and want to read more. (WHAT!?!? I already told you, I'm a nerd!)

"Suppose we have only dreamed" tattoo. The quote is from one of my favorite parts of The Silver Chair by C.S. Lewis.

And lastly, THESE PEOPLE LIVE IN A HOBBIT HOUSE AND I WANT!!!!

You can see more pictures and a video of the house here. I WANT!!!!!

Literary Inspirations - The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn

Monday, February 8, 2010

This week's literary Inspiration is The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain.

Lazy days on the river mean cut off jeans, cool white linen shirts, and straw hats to shade you from the sun. Leather and wooden accessories and fun sandals make paddling upstream a little easier. And of course there's the wicker fishing basket to carry lunch after you've had all your adventures!

It's been a while

Thursday, February 4, 2010

Sorry for the long absence, it's been crazy the last few weeks packing, moving, unpacking, and starting a new job. It's super exciting though because I made the move last Tuesday, and on Thursday traveled to Chicago for the weekend to attend 2 trade shows. One was for the awards company that I work for and we spent 3 days showing, but Saturday and Sunday were spent here:

At the Chicago Merchandise Mart for the Stylemax market week/trade show. It was intense. It was the first show I'd been too (not including LA Market Week when I spent the second day at my internship in a showroom trying to bs my way through the day with buyers), and I was hoping to go to Magic in Las Vegas this month, but I just don't think it's going to happen. However, I will definitely be planning on going to Magic for the next show in August/September.

But back to Stylemax. It's a smaller show, but full of great lines. They didn't have everyone that I was looking into, but I found some fun new lines that I am absolutely going to look into carrying. Two in particular just blew me away, but I don't want to say anything yet! I didn't make any purchases there though because even though I thought they were going to be showing summer and pre-fall clothes, many were still showing spring and carrying a lot of immediates. (For people who have no idea what I'm talking about, showrooms carry samples of the garments and buyers place their orders for a certain amount of time, usually there's a window of a few months. Once all the orders are in, the clothes are manufactured and sent out to the stores. This is why buyers shop for clothes so far in advanced, they still have to be made before they can be sold. Immediates are clothing pieces that are already manufactured and can be sent to your store immediately.) Since I don't have my site up yet, immediates don't do me any good, and I'm hesitant to place an order for a future delivery date because I don't know where my website will be when.

But on that note, I started talking to the web designers who are going to be designing the site, and we are starting March 1! That gives me a little time to figure out exactly what I want on my site and how I want the layout to look. So overall, it's been a busy yet exciting couple of weeks for me!
