I've been moving this past week so sorry for the lack of posts. I'll be back soon!
Congratulations!
Today is your day.
You’re off to Great Places!
You’re off and away!
You have brains in your head.
You have feet in your shoes.
You can steer yourself any direction you choose.
You’re on your own. And you know what you know.
And YOU are the guy who’ll decide where to go.
You’ll look up and down streets. Look’em over with care.
About some you will say, “I don’t choose to go there.”
With your head full of brains and your shoes full of feet,
you’re too smart to go down a not-so-good street.
And you may not find any you’ll want to go down. In
that case, of course, you’ll head straight out of town.
It’s opener there in the wide open air.
Out there things can happen and frequently do
to people as brainy and footsy as you.
And when things start to happen, don’t worry. Don’t stew.
Just go right along. You’ll start happening too.
Oh! The Places You’ll Go!

Literary Inspirations - The Secret Garden
Tuesday, January 19, 2010
Today's literary inspiration is The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett.
A hidden place full of run down stone walls, roses and ivy, old manor houses, birds of all kinds, and a picnic for eating lunches under the trees.

Getting the ball rolling
Sunday, January 17, 2010
First, if you're joining us from my personal blog Traffic Jams and Tracing Paper, welcome!
This week has been rather exciting for me, as I worked my last day at my job, am packing to move, and I finally made the first official steps toward opening the boutique! I met with my graphics designer and we talked about ideas for the logo and business cards, and I started filling out all the forms needed to own/run a commercial business. I am now a legal entity! Next on my list is talking to a web designer to start designing my site, and starting to contact sales reps to purchase lines to carry. As a bonus, at the end of this month I might be attending a trade show, but that's still in the works. In the meantime I'm packing packing packing. (Or realistically, I'm procrastinating, surfing the internet, watching tv, and thinking about packing...)

- Tomorrow is my last day at work and then I get a whole week off to pack and enjoy California before I move
- Beef stew cooking in my crock pot and ready to eat when I get home from work
- Meeting with my graphic designer to work on the logo for the boutique!
- Legalizing the company - I'm now officially a business!
- A Year in Yes calendar - it's got me thinking all sorts of fun things for this year
- Going through my stuff while starting to pack and realizing how blessed I've been out here. I came out to California with whatever could fit in the back and trunk of my little car, and now I need a moving company to get me back.

Things I Love Thursdays
Thursday, January 7, 2010
It's the first Thursday of the new year, and I'm going to start the year in a positive way! Taking a page from Gala Darling and celebrating all things happy!
- My new shoes (which I actually ordered from Piperlime for about $20 cheaper) I love love love them. Well, I should say I love them. My feet on the other hand scream in pain whenever I put them on, so I need to see if the next size up will fit. Everyone on the site said they ran small, but I didn't listen so whoops. Anyway, they are nude and patent leather and I love them!
- Making fun plans for moving and finding a new apartment
- Edy's (or Dreyer's) Limited Edition Girl Scout Thin Mint ice cream is out (last year I may have climbed into a freezer at Target to get the last pint of this...)
- Spending our 2 year anniversary wine tasting in Napa with the boy
- Watching episodes of the original Star Trek from the 60s - so bad it's hilarious (also, it's kind of creepy how well the casting was done for the latest movie, the actors really do look like younger versions of the original characters)
- Making plans to get together with my old roommate from LA
- Lincoln Park After Dark OPI nail polish
- Etc. by Sibella Court. This book is amazing, I got it from Anthropologie (of course) but it appears to be sold out almost everywhere. It really is an incredible decorating book.
Spreading the happiness this new year!

The good old days
Monday, January 4, 2010
This post ended up a little different than I originally intended thanks to youtube, but I'll explain later.
AHAHAHAHA and the best part is, I TOTALLY remember watching this when I was little, and watching the clips now, wow that acting is terrible. And then, thanks to the related videos, I found this:
Which I also loved, although Alex didn't really have cool clothes, just cool super powers. Clarissa, however, had awesome clothes and her best friend got to climb up a ladder into her bedroom and he was a boy which I thought was the coolest thing ever as a 10 year old (or however old I was)
Seeing all these old tv shows I used to love got me to spend about another hour on youtube finding the openings to other shows I loved. Instead of posting all of them here, I'll just list some for nostalgia's sake.
Yesterday I found what has to be one of the best blogs ever. It started when I discovered that Scholastic is re-releasing some of the Baby-Sitters Club books, which got me all excited because I loved those books when I was younger and when I was in 4th grade the girls in my class had this huge fight over them because half of us liked them and half of us didn't and.... um yeah. Anyways, someone posted the link to this blog:
And it's fantastic! It's a blog dedicated to snarking about the hilarious 80s clothes that are described in every single book! And it's rather scary because half of the things they wore are now for sale at American Apparel or Urban Outfitters! And Claudia was my favorite and I loved her clothes and I wanted to be her, only I was too afraid to actually wear anything she did, but I loved it anyway. And why didn't I think of this? So I spent about 3 hours last night reading the archives and laughing myself into an asthma attack (like Abby would have. She had asthma, remember? Sheesh.)
I decided I had to share this gem, so I spent a half hour on Google looking at images of the book covers and then I found THIS:

- Doug
- Pete and Pete
- All That
- Hey Dude
- Boy Meets World (although my favorite ones were the later episodes when they were in college. Those were the funniest and in my opinion, the best)
- What Would You Do?
- Sabrina The Teenage Witch (although I was a little older when this one aired, I think)
- Legends of the Hidden Temple
- Bill Nye the Science Guy
- Ghostwriter
And I know there are more, but those are all I can remember. Can we bring back 90s Nickelodeon tv? Pretty please?!
Wow, I haven't thought about any of these things in ages. I want to be a kid again!!!
What were some of your favorite shows growing up?
